Multi-channel high quality audio interactions
This experiment was a landmark for me. We have managed to establish a connection between SARC and CCRMA in California with 8 channels of high-quality audio with non-ideal network conditions. This has allowed us to successfully test and play with the Frequencyliator. The interaction was fantastic and the players were very satisfied of their experience. We also attempted to send moving picture content over the network to capture the gestures of instrumentalists. The strategy involves sending the coordinates of a live video capture which is then rendered via OpenGL. This allows a level of control never seen before and even though we don’t get a true video signal on the other end of the pipe, the creation of human like avatars that are animated by those coordinates is possible. This is really exciting and you’ll hear more soon on this blog.
